Palmer Luckey: The techie that’s going to save America
His name is Palmer Luckey and he is going to save America. At a time when the defense industry is being stretched by a tech arms race with China, this unsuspecting guy shows up to disrupt the industry. He started out messing around with VR headsets in high school. At the age of 20 he started the company that produced Oculus – a product that was then snapped up by Meta for $2 billion. Luckey then worked for Meta for a while but got fired – some say because of a donation he made to a pro-Trump PAC.
Since leaving Meta, he started Anduril – a startup defense contractor that has shown great promise. They are producing cheap but game-changing weapons. Some of the weapons are autonomous and utilize AI. He has already gotten contracts from the US and various foreign governments including Ukraine. One of their latest weapons is actually an anti-drone drone called Road Runner. It’s a high-speed interceptor that can maneuver and carry a warhead to destroy targets in a kamikaze-like fashion. What’s more, the weapon is autonomous, cheap, and reusable.
Luckey is only in his early 30s and already he’s someone worth watching.
