I haven’t been watching him for very long but he certainly has my attention. He became a legend in college football and the NFL, but these days he’s gives of himself to spread the Gospel. With a Doctor of Ministry degree behind him, he now leads Transformation Church – a multi-ethnic mega church in South Carolina.
He’s a new generation of evangelical leaders–one who isn’t afraid of talking about politics. but you can’t seem pin him down as a Democrat, or a Republican–and perhaps that’s how it should be. Just as he warns us of the “lost liberal left”, he doesn’t shy away form going after the “crazy MAGA right” either. He confronts Christian Nationalism and authoritarianism head on, but this isn’t coming from an anti-Trump liberal mainline preacher–he’s a solid evangelical.
He’s the kind of leader people are looking for today. We want to see someone who hasn’t sold out to a party, and is just as passionate as he is clear-eyed about the mission of Christ in these perilous times.
