Be Who God Made You To Be

You don’t need to apologize to anybody for who you are. I mean who God made you to be, whether you’re a Baptist, Presbyterian, or Pentecostal. Some of my most formative years as a young Christian were spent in Baptist universities. I had to write a doctrinal statement for a theology class I had at Liberty. I still have it and I would probably write the same doctrinal statement today. I don’t think I’d change a thing after all these years. I also have some early experience with Pentecostalism. By the way Baptist and Pentecostals have much more in common than you think, but I digress. But when it comes down to it, Baptists are my people. I’ve had some negative experiences with Baptists (and I’ve even sort of rebelled against Baptists), but just as you might have had some hard times with your family, the same can be true of the church. I think I have Baptist DNA somehow. I’ve been to all sorts of churches but no matter where I go, I’ll tell people that I’m unapologetically Baptist. And I don’t get offended when I hear Baptist jokes, they are quite funny to me. Baptists are indeed unusual creatures I think. Sometimes you’ve just got to laugh at what you are, quirks and all. So I’m stuck with Baptists. But for every Baptist joke out there, I have one for Presbyterians, and Pentecostals too.
