“My knees give way from fasting;
    my body is thin and gaunt.
I am an object of scorn to my accusers;
    when they see me, they shake their heads.
Help me, Lord my God;
    save me according to your unfailing love”<\/p>Psalm 109:24-26<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Have you ever been accused of something, whether you were guilty of it or not? David the patriarch knew all about this. In Psalm 109, he describes feeling like an object of “scorn” while people accuse him and shake their heads. Knowing God is the only one who can truly defend him, he looks to the “unfailing love” that he knows God has for him, so he fasts and prays for God to deliver him. Who do you look to when accusations come your way? Do you try to defend yourself, or do you rely on God to defend you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good news is that Jesus defends you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Revelation 12:10 describes Satan as the accuser of the brethren. He accuses those who belong to Christ, standing before God the Father day and night as he levels these charges against them. If you are not yet a Christian, you are basically defenseless againt an adversay like Satan. The reality is that even though you might be saved, you will still fall short and sin. But guess what? Jesus has already triumphed over your accusers through his shed blood. He intercedes between you, Satan, and the Father, bearing the penalty you rightfully deserve. So when he looks at you now, He sees the righteousness that only a sinless Savior could have achieved. That’s why you don’t have to prove yourself by trying to earn God’s forgiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because we still live in these sin-tainted bodies, we will inevitably stumble into sin. The apostle John addresses this in John 2:1-2. He writes, “If anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father\u2014Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when Satan levels accusations against you, Jesus steps in as your advocate, declaring that you are covered by His blood, which has made redemption possible. If you are a Christian, you can rest in His defense. If you are not yet a follower of Christ, you can come to Him with empty hands, repent, and receive the free gift of eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what will you to do when the accusations come your way, as they surely will? Will you look to Jesus to be your defender?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
