Are you overly suspicious? Do you suspect ulterior motives in everyone? There is certainly evil in the world, but sometimes we see things that aren’t there. I know I do, but the Bible warns of this exact reality in Titus 1:15: To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

What you need is to transform your mind. Once the Word of God transforms it, you’ll begin to see things for what they are. A pure mind will cause you to see the best in others, not the worst. This isn’t Pollyanna-ish thinking; it’s God’s truth.

When you give your life to Christ, God gives you a brand-new heart right then and there. But your mind isn’t transformed overnight. We spent years building up old habits, negative thought patterns, and worldly ways of seeing things. This is why Paul urges us in Romans 12:2, ‘Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…’ Clearing out that dirty filter isn’t a one-time event—it’s a daily journey of walking with the Holy Spirit, soaking in the Word, and letting God reshape how we think, one thought at a time.

This is where true freedom begins, because a renewed mind isn’t something we can manufacture through human effort alone. It is a gift granted to us through faith in Jesus Christ, who cleanses our hearts from the inside out. When God purifies the heart, our minds are finally set free from the constant weight of suspicion, guilt, and fear. Instead of viewing everything through a lens of legalism or self-righteous restriction, a renewed mind learns to receive life with genuine gratitude.

If you don’t yet know Christ in a personal way and are tired of seeing life through a lens of cynicism, guilt, or emptiness, you need to turn your life over to Him and begin the process of renewing your mind. You’ll then find yourself seeing the world through the lens of a pure, transformed mind. You’ll still recognize evil when it’s real, but you’ll stop assuming bad intentions behind good things.

When God changes your heart, He changes the way you see everything else. So if you are suffering from a corrupt mind, make this your prayer:

“God, I admit that my heart and mind are dirty. I can’t clean this filter on my own. I believe Jesus died to forgive me, and I ask You to give me a new heart, cleanse my mind, and show me who You really are.”

If everything around you seems corrupt, especially good things, your mind may be corrupt.
