Do I have a sign on my head that says “Play me”? I know when people are speaking out of two sides of their mouths. They will craft a message that is supposed to come across to me in a particular way while it’s supposed to mean something else to the crowd that hates me. There isn’t necessarily anything wrong with doing that I guess except I feel some people are attempting to play me. It even seems a little devious. I’d rather people just come out and tell me they hate me instead of trying to create one impression with me while at the same time trying to encourage my haters.

I know I got played big time when I was at law school. I’m not sure why I thought they might try to help me because they really wanted to destroy me. Of course, they were rather ambiguous about all of this so it’s my habit not to trust people whom I can’t tell which side they are on. And playing both sides never seems to pay off in the long run.

I don’t really care which side a person is on as long as they pick a side. I don’t care much for MAGA myself but at least they aren’t ambiguous about what side they are on and what they stand for. I may disagree with them, but I can respect the fact that they are willing to go all in on their side and not try to appease 50 different crowds. As for me, my side is not Republican or Democrat, I’m on Christ’s side.

Republicans have one thing going for them especially in the religious-right faction of the party. They are united because they have one cohesive and comprehensive worldview that answers all of life’s tough questions. You can’t buy that with any amount of campaign dollars. Democrats have no such worldview, they only seem to have support from those who are disgruntled with Republicans and these groups are not united behind any common principles. They are mostly just united in having common enemies making them comrades and not allies. This, while evangelicals are now winning hearts and minds, not by pushing a political platform (although this is changing) but in sharing a common worldview. This worldview informs all of their decisions and will outlast any party’s platform. While I’m a proponent of this worldview, I’m not sure any political party really aligns with it right now. I’m of the opinion that the Christian’s duty is to be loyal to Christ, not a party. James Dobson, once a leading voice among evangelicals and a lifelong Republican has basically said that if the party doesn’t represent our worldview, we really have no duty to support it. If I remember correctly, he even suggested creating a new party if Republicans couldn’t get their act together. We shouldn’t demand that Christians be more Republican or Democrat, we should demand that the party aligns with our Christian values.

Why do people always want to play me?
