He favors the wealthy at the expense of the poor. This is a moral problem. But of course most of us have bought into this silly notion that taxing the wealthy means punishing success and innovation even though the person already own two yachts, a private jet, and a private island (I’m not sure how not being able to afford a third or fourth private island stifles innovation, but whatever). So instead he wants to punish poor people. After all, if you’re into the prosperity gospel as some on his staff are, then you believe that being poor is a sign of a lack of faith. If you believe that then maybe it makes sense, but to the people who are going to be homeless, for the people who work two jobs but can’t feed their children, well it doesn’t really seem to reflect biblical values or the Spirit of Christ. But who cares about them, because they don’t even have $10,000 to give to Paula White! And you know you need to give at least that much to be really blessed by God!

By the way, if poverty is a sin or a curse, then why were Jesus and his followers so poor? After all, Jesus spent most of his time just traveling around talking to people. He probably lived off of the kindness of others (by the way, if you live off of donations, you are also living off the kindness of others). In other words, according to Trump, he was probably a slacker who just didn’t work hard enough or he was just plain lazy. I guess some people also believe this idea that being wealthy means you earned it by working hard. That’s laughable.

All the statistics show that wealth is usually attributable to family factors such as inheritance rather than being the product of upward mobility 1 By punishing the poor for a lack of mobility that the system itself prevents, we are essentially criminalizing the struggle for survival.

1Data suggests that if you are born in the bottom 20%, you have only about a 7.5% chance of reaching the top 20%.

There is a clear pattern to Trump’s policies.
