The Chinese are testing our responses to drone swarm incursions into our military bases. The latest incident was especially egregious because the base was Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana which is a nuclear command hub that flies long-range bombers. The drones were sophisticated in that they were resistant to jamming–that kind of drone can only come from our military or one of our adversaries. It was obviously China. The problem is there are many Chinese in this country and we don’t know who is loyal to Beijing.
What we need is a way to regulate these drones. We need a way to track who these drones belong to, perhaps some type of license or simply a way to register the drone. And if a drone is of Chinese origin or is unregistered it needs to be shot down. Drones should also be required carry some sort of transponder so we can spot foreign ones. This is serious National Security stuff– the sort of stuff we can’t allow to happen and if it were a real attack we would have been in a hell of trouble.
