so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

One of my favorite classes in college was Economics. The study of economics is defined as “primarily concerned with analyzing the choices that individuals, businesses, governments, and nations make to allocate limited resources.” Things of this earth are limited. There is only so much money, oil, and other tangible goods on this earth. In other words, economics is the field devoted to studying how we live with each other given our finite resources.. When it comes to God however, his resources are unlimited.

Things like love, or God’s love more specifically, are unlimited. You’ll never run out of love so give it away because it’s unlimited. It’s all around us in abundance emanating from the very heart of God. So don’t think there’s only so much love to go around. Don’t be stingy with it. And don’t think that he loves you less than someone else. He doesn’t love you any less than than he loved David, Paul , or Peter – or any other “heroes” of the faith. Jesus came because “God so loved the world” – the entire world, and everyone in it. Not only does he have more than enough love to go around, his love is described as being “wide”, “long”, “high”, and “deep” – thats a lot of love. There are verses in the Bible where it says we are not to love something, such as “Do not love the world or anything in the world” (1 John 2:14a). But here when we say “world” we are not referring to the literal cosmos, we are talking about the world’s system and values – not the earth (or universe) and it’s people. So go on and spread that love around, because He loved you before the foundation of the world.
